Samsung has announced it has developed the world's first 24GB GDDR7 DRAM memory chip for GPUs. This high-capacity memory chip, featuring the fastest performance in the industry, will be used in flagship GPUs next year, advancing performance and efficiency.

It was also the first brand in the world to complete the development of GDDR7 chips.

Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 chip has fastest performance and highest capacity

Samsung unveiled its first 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM memory chip earlier today. It is the fastest and highest-capacity GDDR7 DRAM chip in the world. It uses Pulse-Amplitude Modulation (PAM3) signaling to achieve data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps, which is a 25% improvement compared to the previous-generation GDDR chip. Performance can go as high as 42.5Gbps, depending on the usage environment.

The chip is made using Samsung Foundry's 5th-generation 10nm process, which increases its cell density by 50% without increasing the package size compared to its predecessor. With the help of technologies like clock control management and dual VDD design, Samsung has managed to reduce the chip's power consumption by 30%. Samsung has also used power gating techniques to further reduce power leakage.

The company's GDDR7 DRAM chip will be used for high-performance tasks like AI, data centers, and graphics processing. It will likely be used in next-generation gaming consoles, PCs, and advanced connected vehicles.

Samsung says its new GDDR7 memory chip will be validated this year, and it will start shipping to major GPU customers (most likely AMD and Nvidia) early next year.
