Nintendo may divorce TV for visors
The Revolution will still be televisedâ₠¬Â¦ By Marc McEntegart: Tuesday 01 November 2005, 15:07 SHIGERU Miyamoto, the man behind Mario, has managed to shock everyone with his view that games are confined by televisions. During an interview with Business Week, Miyamoto was asked about the future of videogames, to which he responded, "It's convenient to make games that are played on TVs. But I always wanted to have a custom-sized screen that wasn't the typical four-cornered cathode-ray-tube TV." He continues to say that, "I've always thought that games would eventually break free of the confines of a TV screen to fill an entire room." For anyone who remembers the Nintendo video featuring a headset with a visor and what seemed to be a graphic overlay on what the viewer was looking at this is exciting news indeed, though Miyamoto did end the line of questioning quite suddenly by simply ending with, "But I would rather not say anything more about that." Miyamoto was also asked about the upcoming Revolution, on which he said, "I want families to play video games together. That was the concept behind the Revolution." It's an admirable goal and one that he feels the new controller will add to. Due to its easily recognised TV remote style, people "wouldn't think they had to always stash it away". Quote: |
