How To: Disassemble Xbox
You will need:
Torx 20 driver Torx 10 driver At least one hand 1. Flip your xbox upside down. 2. Remove 6 screws from the bottom with the Torx 20 driver. The red dots in this picture show where these screws are located. 3. Turn the xbox rightside-up again, and lift the case top off. 4. Unplug the ide ribbon-cable and power cables from both the hard drive and the dvd drive. These spots are marked in yellow on the image below. 5. Remove 3 screws from the drive trays with the Torx 10 driver. The red dots in the image show where to find them. 6. Lift out the hard drive tray. You will have to untangle the powerline from the side of the tray. 7. Lift out the dvd drive. You can now access any of the internal parts. Removing the Motherboard: 1. Remove all cables attached to the motherboard. You should have: -2 controller port plugs -eject panel plug -psu plug -rear fan plug -dvd power cable -ide cable. 2. Remove all 11 screws with the torx10 driver as shown in picture below. 3. The motherboard can now be lifted out carefully, front edge first. You can now access the back of the motherboard or put in a replacement. Removing the Powersupply Board: 1. Remove the big cable attached to the motherboard. 2. Remove both screws with the torx10 driver as shown in picture below. 3. The powersupply board can now be lifted out carefully, front edge first. Removing the Front Panel: 1. Unplug the yellow cables that go from the eject panel to the motherboard. 2. Stick the flatblade screwdriver into the gap on the side where the arrow shows. Pry the side outwards and forward until you feel the front shift forward slightly. 3. On the inside, use the screwdriver to push up on the three tabs shown. 4. The front should pull away from the case bottom, make sure the cable threads out thru the hole in the front. 5. To remove the eject panel, use something pointy to push down on the tab shown. 6. Swing eject panel out. Replacing the Controller Ports: 1. Remove the cables that run from each port-set to the motherboard (marked yellow). 2. Remove all 4 screws with the torx10 driver as shown in picture below (marked red). 3. Pull the ports up first, then pull them up and out of the case. 4. Set aside the old ports, and put the new ones in where the old ones came out, and plug them in. 5. Use the Torx 10 to re-insert the 4 port screws. |
