Theme Installation
Introduction
Alright, let's break this one down for EVERYONE. I've had a lot of people asking about themes being put in. I am currently in the process of redesigning the way that themes get loaded into the phone. My preferred method is using the upgrade utility. It is as safe as I can think of right now for just about anyone. There are other ways, but I do not wish to talk about, nor get into them at this moment. So Let's get started... I'm going to say this only once: Themes are through the FIRMWARE. This is not accessed through webJAL or any other type of JAL. Here is a quick chart for themes for phones that I currently do: Phone Software i860 R1C.02.03 i870 R5B.00.04 i760/i850 R3D.01.01 Checking the Software Version Next onto business is checking your software version. This is done by entering into Trace Mode by going to the main screen (screen that shows when you open your phone without touching any buttons). The code to get into trace mode is: #, *, Menu Key, Right Arrow. Try to go fast, or else it might not work. Then you go to Unit Info > Software > Software Ver:. This will indicate your software version, if it is higher than what is currently supported, then a downgrade will be necessary to get one of my themes. Downgrading will be the next tutorial to be made. Grabbing the Correct Upgrade Utility: Do's and Do not's Now currently, the only Upgrade Utility that Motorola hosts that is useful for themes, is the i860 one. The link to them is iDEN Phones. The rest, just ask I, or another admin. The beauty of the new scripts that I wrote, is that the patching installer will not launch unless it detects the correct Upgrade Utility. Note: In order for the installer to detect the utility, when you are installing the Upgrade Utility DO NOT CHANGE THE DEFAULT INSTALLATION LOCATION Patching Theme to Phone After you recieve and install the correct Upgrade Utility, run the theme installation. When it completes, it will say successful, you then run the Upgrade Utility for that phone. HAVE FULL BATTERY. That is the most important step. If your battery turns off, or your phone get unplugged while the utility is writing, then you have a nice expensive paperweight. For the utility to run smoothly, the phone needs to be in FlashTrap mode. Steps for FlashTrap 1. Phone needs to be off. 2. Hold onto the softkeys (two identical keys that are above and to the right and left of the Up Arrow on the Directional Pad) and power back on the phone. If this is done correctly, it will say FlashTrap in black letters on a white screen. Last edited by elboriyorker; 10-20-2008 at 10:48 PM. |
